A SERIOUS PROBLEM: Millions of children are growing up in America to become the victims or perpetrators of violence. Educators across the country want to do something about this serious problem. Peaceful Solutions gives them tools and training to do so.

MULTIMEDIA SOLUTIONS: Peaceful Solutions is an innovative professional package that teaches educators techniques of conflict resolution and violence prevention. Four half-hour videotape programs and this Web site give middle and high school teachers information and strategies to help students gain the skills necessary to prevent violence in their lives.

Each Peaceful Solutions video program focuses on two strategies. Programs one and two present approaches that reflect a global or societal perspective. These include community service learning, the model UN program, bias awareness, and media literacy. Programs three and four explore strategies to prevent or resolve interpersonal conflict. These include communication skill building, academic controversy, changing habits of thought, and mediation.

BUILDING LIFE SKILLS: Peaceful Solutions promotes the goals of national education reform -- to enable students to develop attitudes and skills that will have lifelong value. Teachers who use the strategies outlined in Peaceful Solutions will help students develop problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.

These much needed resources will inspire educators, parents, and communities to make conflict resolution a basic of school life by showing and telling us how it can be done.
