National Dance Institute
Dancers of Jacques d'Amboise's stature often move on to start their own performance companies, but in 1976, this New York City Ballet legend started the National Dance Institute, an organization that teaches dance to public schools kids of all abilities.
The Institute teaches kids about the arts through dance, but it's not a training school for future professionals. At P.S.199 on Manhattan's Upper West Side, students with physical disabilities learn right alongside able-bodied students, which teaches everyone in the class something about the spirit of dance.
