A Place For The Arts
The Lower Manhattan Development Corporation is moving ahead with plans to build a new cultural center at the site of the World Trade Center, which Lower Manhattan Development Corporation President Kevin Rampe sees as a powerful act of symbolism, representing "the triumph of civilization over terror."
We spoke with performance groups and artists about their vision for the arts downtown, including:
- Beverly Willis, who leads a coalition of residents, businesses and artists in call for a corridor for the arts. Her organization, Rebuild Downtown Our Town has produced a position paper on the topic.
- Linda Shelton of the Joyce Theater
- Jennifer Raab, president of Hunter College
- Sarah Henry of the Museum of the City of New York
