Sixtieth Street in Manhattan—from the East River to the Hudson—could become the longest tollbooth in the world. Driving from the Upper West Side down to Midtown? Pretty soon that might cost you eight bucks.
Tonight Rafael Pi Roman looks at a plan to charge drivers an $8 toll when they cross 60th Street heading downtown, with the goal of cutting traffic in Manhattan by seven percent. The mayor supports the plan, and it's currently being considered in both the City Council and the State Assembly.
We'll hear from Traffic Commission Member Elizabeth Yeampierre, State Assemblyman Richard Brodsky and some New Yorkers sitting in their cars stuck in traffic.
