Homegrown Threat?

The New York Police Department recently released a report that claims, among other things, that New York City's Muslim community has been "permeated by extremists who have [sown] and continue to sow the seeds of radicalization." The report argues more broadly that "homegrown" terrorists, with no ties to foreign groups, pose a growing threat. Members of the city's Muslim Community call the report "racist." The New York Civil Liberties Union says that it greatly exaggerates the threat and "lays the groundwork for blanket surveillance of New York City's Muslim community."

Rafael Pi Roman sits down with Richard Falkenrath, the NYPD's Deputy Commissioner for Counterterrorism, to discuss homegrown terrorism and other issues affecting the city's safety.
