NEW YORKERS AND THE WAR |

More than 5,000 Army National Guardsmen from New York State have served in the Iraqi War, and 23 of them have died in combat. Among all the armed services, 123 soldiers from New York State have died in the line of duty, with 28 of them residing in New York City. Tonight's show is a look at how the war has affected us here at home.
The Fighting 69th:The 69th Infantry is a New York National guard unit based in Manhattan that returned home last September from a year-long tour of duty in Iraq. Nineteen of the soldiers serving with the unit were killed in action. Rafael Pi Roman sat down with three members of the 69th: Sgt. Pedro Mojica, Lt. Shawn Tabankin, and Specialist Elvis Suazo.

Interview with Bob Kerrey: Bob Kerrey, a Vietnam Veteran and former Senator from Nebraska, moved to New York city in 2001 to become president of the New School. The following year, a group of students took over his office to protest his strong stance in favor of invading Iraq. That led to a widely covered event in which Kerrey debated his students on the merits of the war.

Wounded Warrior: Robert Loria was in Iraq serving as a combat engineer for the army in February of 2004, when he was wounded by a roadside bomb. From the moment he arrived at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, an organization called the Wounded Warrior Project was there to help.

Campus Politics: The Supreme Court ruled recently that universities that receive federal money must allow ROTC recruiters on campus. But the issue continues to be debated by pro and anti-war students at universities in the area, including Rutgers and Columbia.
