I was just 18 on June 7-44

June 6-44 Tues, USA invaded France 12:35PM. We were at school was 3:32PM USA time. We prayed at class. At our home my father was an air raid warden for our area in the Bronx, NY. I took a war course called international code. Gathered pot & pans to be picked up for metal use. Purchased war bond stamps at school to help the war effort. Had air raid shelters marked as such on building which still exists. We had 'air raid room' with bucket of sand. FDR was elected '4' Term 11/8/44 FDR 413 Dewey 118
Aug 8/45 Russia declared war on Japan
Aug 9/45 Birth of atom bomb dropped on Japan
Aug 13/45 Japan surrendered.
Went to Times Square to celebrate (2 million people) I have original war ration book (Family 04) Book one two three.
