(1944) I enlisted in US Army Reserve (ASTRP) at age of 17 and was sent to Rutgers Univ. At age of 18 (May '45) I was assigned to Infantry Replacement Training Ft. Blanding Fl. The war ended during my training, and was sent to Italy (Oct 45) and assigned to 300th general hospital- General Hospital, Naples, Italy. In Spring of '46 - all Jewish servicemen in area were invited to Seder in Naples conducted by a English Army Rabbi. Jewish servicemen from US, Canada, England and Palestine held a victory Seder. Serving the soldiers were German Prisoners of War. I still remember the shouts 'More Gefilte Fish Fritz'. Too many young lives were lost for these young soldiers to enjoy the victory Matzohs that year.
