Because we were Jewish we were forced to leave Berlin, Germany in 1938 and wound up in Columbia, SA. An immigration quota prevented us from moving to the US until December 1940. At that time we found out that a big part of our family including a brother, cousins, Uncles, Aunts and friends had been taken into Concentration Camps never to be seen again. After coming to America all I thought about was getting into the service to fight the Nazis. I had to wait till 1943, when I was old enough to enlist. After basic training, to my dismay, I was sent to the Pacific. I was in the infantry, going from New Caledonia, to the Solomon Islands and was involved in the invasion of Luzon in Philippines. We fought our way into Manila where I was ready to go into Japan when the War ended. I came back home in March 1946 and then made my way into the American Way of life. I was lucky to come back home where so many were not and became the father of 4 and grandfather to 5. I was truly blessed. God Bless America.
