At P.S. 212 (Brooklyn) all of us were encouraged to plant Victory Gardens & buy stamps to fill up books to buy War Bonds. I was born in 1937 and started school with many friends who had Dads that were 'uniforms'. My Dad was an air-raid warden & made sure ALL of the neighbors put out their lights when we had air raids. My Mom went for our food with money & stamp books - Yes - 'rations'. For me - I was very proud of my Uncle Yonnie. He was going overseas to save us all. Aunt Mary wrote to him every day & prayed very hard. My brother was born during this time & I remember his carriage made of wood! No chrome bumpers or handles.

May God Bless all those who served & kept us safe.
