Climbing trees and practicing identifying airplane through a cereal box premium. Father was captain of a destroyer. Injured he was put in charge of antisubmarine warfare for Atlantic.
While on the destroyer they depth charged what was probably a whale and not a submarine.
In 1939 was in France and Munich. To stay 'under radar' walking with my mother in Munich and raising arm in 'Heil Hitler' when passing German soldiers.
Eating horsemeat (ugh).
We did plant a victory garden.
When Pearl Harbor attacked I remember listening about it on radio.
My life really didn't change that much. Navy was good to us.
