November 11, 2016: Saving Our Veterans From Suicide

November 11, 2016 at 6:27 pm

According to data from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, more than 7,400 veterans took their own lives in 2014, which accounted for 18 percent of all suicides in America. That number is staggering but reveals the harsh reality that our nation’s veterans return to when they leave the battleground. Thankfully, there is someone in their corner. Dr. John Draper, the project director of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, works tirelessly to prevent the tragedy of losing these servicemen who fought so hard to protect our freedoms. Tonight, Dr. Draper joins us with Will Beckenhaupt, an Iraqi War veteran who served in the 82nd infantry from 2005 to 2010. Together, they provide a vital look into how we can eradicate this tragic loss of life.

If you or anyone you know needs help, please contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255. For veterans, Press 1 when you get to the automated menu.
