Calling all you Deadheads out there! After 50 years, the Grateful Dead may have disbanded, but they and their fans are “still truckin’ along.”

Next weekend in Long Island at the Vanderbilt Museum, the 4th Annual Grateful Fest runs on Saturday August 27th from noon to 6:30pm. The festival, organized by life long fan and Deadhead Rich Rivkin, celebrates the music and art of the Grateful Dead. Started in 2012, the Grateful Fest is a celebration of the Grateful Dead as a band and the community they’ve inspired. The festival has attracted hundreds of fans all throughout Long Island and across the surrounding tri-state area. This year they are expecting over 1200 visitors.

So, whats the magic of the Grateful Dead? What makes the band as popular as ever and how did they keep such a devoted fan base?

MetroFocus anchor Jack Ford spoke with Rolling Stone contributing editor Anthony Decurtis to answer that question.
