My favorite spot for the finest and freshest Italian pastry, cookies, gelato and cappuccino is Caffe Italia in Whitestone, Queens. Nino Pino is the charming pastry chef and proprietor who will delight you with his delicious creations and stories.

This family-run business has its roots in Taormina, but you only need to travel to Queens to taste it. There is a story linking the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and St. Patrick’s Day with how I discovered this hidden treasure, but ask Nino to explain it to you if you’re curious. Tell him Dennis sent you.

Dennis Elsas, one of New York’s most popular radio personalities, is heard daily on WFUV and on Sirius/XM Classic Vinyl. Elsas’ website features highlights from his history making interviews with John Lennon, Elton John, Jerry Garcia, Pete Townshend and more.
