I always tell people to take a day trip up to Cold Spring on the Hudson River. The way that nature meets culture here is great.

Mount Taurus, which some people call Bull Hill, is a great hike that offers outcroppings where you can see the whole town and get a glimpse of the West Point Military Academy.

In the summer, we have outdoor screenings and free music in the park on Sundays. Also nearby is Boscobel, which has the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival.

For a great bite to eat, I recommend Cathryn’s Tuscan Grill or Riverview Restaurant.

Dar Williams is a singer and songwriter. She released her debut album, “The Honesty Room,” in 1993 and has toured with Joan Baez. Her most recent studio album is “Promised Land,” released in 2008. She lives in the Hudson River Valley with her husband and two children.
