There’s quite a few great Ping-Pong places to play in around New York. My favorite place is SPiN in Manhattan. It’s on 23rd Street. It’s a bar, restaurant and table tennis emporium. It’s co-owned by Susan Sarandon, the actress. They have gotten a huge amount of publicity and they have really helped raise the level of table tennis in the area. They have something called the “dirty dozen tournament” every Friday night where they have 12 of the top players in the  New York area compete for a $500 or $1000 prize. It usually starts at 9 p.m. in the evening and you go there to have drinks and watch some fantastic table tennis literally feet from where you’re sitting.

Will Shortz is the crossword editor for the New York Times and owner of the Westchester Table Tennis Center.
