Bonobo’s is a raw vegan restaurant on 23rd Street on the south side of Madison Square Park. A filling lunch costs maybe $12. Bonobo’s is focused on salads which they serve to you in a buffet-style manner. They also have coconut water; cold soups; balls of sesame seeds and agave nectar; and raw vegan ice cream made of only either banana, banana and strawberry, banana and pineapple, and sometimes durian. My favorite thing to get from there is the “popeye,” I think, which is coconut water, coconut meat, and spinach blended.

Tao Lin is the author of “Richard Yates,” “Shoplifting from American Apparel” and four other books.
