"The Book of Mormon" will put on Friday matinees next year. The practice breaks with Broadway tradition. Flickr/jenny8lee.

Broadway theaters are breaking with established practice by offering additional weekday matinees. Until now, matinees have been scheduled — for the most part –on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Telecharge.com has just announced that several shows have begun offering matinee performances on Thursdays and Fridays.

Check out these newly-scheduled matinees:

  • “Chicago” is currently showing Thursday matinees.
  • “Baby its You!” is now putting on Friday Matinees.
  • “Rock of Ages” is showing Friday matinees.
  • “Mamma Mia!” will show Friday matinees on August 19 and 26.
  • Starting in June of next year, “The Book of Mormon” will put on Friday matinees.

LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS NEW PROGRAM.

This sounds like the first alternative to Time Warner’s Channel 1. I enjoy Channel 1 but look forward to this choice. MC
