Perhaps the most fascinating blogging development is in the political realm. Erstwhile pundits are finding the forum once reserved for media insiders, a situation that delights some and terrifies others.
The popularity of blogs has not only affected those who are happy to get their political views off their chest; the popularity of blogs has affected media outlets. MSNBC.com and FoxNews.com, for example, have created blogging areas on their sites.
Yet not everyone is impressed. On his Web log, "Like Kryptonite to Stupid," Oliver Willis pokes fun at the recent trend of major media networks including a blog component on their Web sites.
Many political pundits, in addition to their regular columns and media appearances, have now added one more medium to their repertoire: the blog. One of the most notable examples is the blog site of Andrew Sullivan, a former New York TIMES writer who is now blogging full-time. His efforts to raise money for his site have proven quite successful, and this may (or may not) set a pattern for other bloggers. Time will tell.
