I am the author of an Afro-Boricua children’s storybook: Isabella’s Hair and How She Learned to Love It. I wrote the story to contribute and pay a debt of gratitude to all children who have questioned or have been forced to question their identity as a child of Latino heritage. Set in Carolina, Puerto Rico. Isabella, the main character, is questioning her identity. An original song “Cafe con Leche” is sung to Isabella by her abuelita to support Isabella in making connections between her unique beauty and the natural world of Puerto Rico.
