On July 4th, 2000, Thirteen/WNET New York was on hand to document and record one of the largest maritime events in history with a three-hour live broadcast that included interviews, walking tours of vessels, and a special segment on the historic vessel Amistad.

Three major events coincided on July 4th: OpSail 2000, a parade of tall ships from around the world; The International Naval Review, an inspection of military vessels from 25 nations by President Clinton; and Military Salute Week, a annual event during which thousands of naval officers and enlisteds from many countries enjoy shore leave in New York City.

Alone, each of these events is spectacular. Combined, they tell a rich and compelling story about the history and traditions of the world's seafaring nations. The following resources detail many of the vessels that participated in one of the greatest assemblages of American maritime history.
