OVERVIEW

In this lesson students will gain an understanding of the rich history of jazz music, explore a variety of Web sites that feature jazz, and examine how Jazz relates to popular culture. The students will conduct research on the history of Jazz; engage in a debate, research a variety of popular jazz artists, create a jazz workshop project, and prepare a short report on a selected artist and the historical context of the time in which he or she worked.

OBJECTIVES


1. Students will begin to develop an understanding of how music is a part of culture.
2. Students will research the history of Jazz and create presentations based on the information they have learned.
3. Students will gather information about a variety of Jazz artists.
4. Students will prepare a short report on a selected artist and the historical context of the time in which he or she worked.
