OVERVIEW
The purpose of this lesson is to provide students with some initial
experiences with jazz. They will have the opportunity to listen to
different pieces of music, discuss the process of improvisation, hear
the story of a young New York jazz musician, and conduct Internet
research on jazz.
OBJECTIVES
1. Students will develop an understanding of jazz music.
2. Students will conduct a survey and compile the results.
3. Students will engage in writing activities.
4. Students will conduct Internet research.
5. Students will create presentations based on their research and
thoughts.
6. Students will begin to develop an understanding of the role culture
plays in music.
