In our first It&#8217;s the Economy, NY online interview, we spoke with Michael Hickey, executive director of <a href="http://www.cnycn.org/">the Center for New York City Neighborhoods</a>. The center, created in 2007, is a not-for-profit organization that works with other groups in the city that offer legal services, counseling, community outreach and educational activities for those facing foreclosure.<span id="more-20"></span> Call 311 or the center directly: 646.786.0888.</p>
<p>But first take a look at the process of what happens after a home is foreclosed upon. We followed a mother and daughter team on Staten Island who work on REO (real estate owned) properties every day. Valerie and Lauren Wonica of Wonica Realtors &amp; Appraisers, in business for more than 30 years, expect to see up to 90 REOs this year compared to 10-20 a couple of years ago.  </p>
