As part of our 50th anniversary celebration, we’re opening the doors of the Tisch WNET Studios at Lincoln Center (66th Street and Broadway) on Thursday, August 30 from 6-8 p.m.!

Stop by and enjoy a look at the home of NYC-ARTS, Need to Know, MetroFocus and a number of other THIRTEEN programs and you may even catch a glimpse of Lincoln Center’s Met Opera Summer HD Festival presentation of Rossini’s La Cenerentola in their plaza while you’re there!

I am 58 years old; old enough to remember the birth of Thirteen. Where else but Channel Thirteen could a Jersey guy growing alongside the Turnpike (Exit 12) hear about Andy Warhol, Truman Capote, Miles Davis, the NY Philharmonic, black history, Vietnam, Margaret Mead, etc. before anyone else in town. Watching 13 was sometimes like listening to someone else’s record collection. It was great to see what the “adults” were doing in the world. Thirteen always was, and still is, an eye- and ear-opening experience.
