I have been reading Sesame Street: A Celebration – 40 years Of Life On The Street. According to this book Sesame Street did not premiere on Thirteen/WNET. Look at page 31 “New York City’s local affiliate, Channel Thirteen, passed on the show. So Joan Cooney cannily negotiated a waiver from the unions to air the show on the commercial network WPIX channel 11 until Thirteen opted to pick up the show in season two” You should check out the book it has some great pictures and wonderful trivia.
