What Do You Think? Mayor Bloomberg Wins Re-Election Bid
Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

Despite polls that showed Michael Bloomberg with a double-digit lead in New York City’s mayoral election, the incumbent squeaked by Comptroller William Thompson to win a third term as mayor Tuesday night. With 100% of New York City precincts reporting, Bloomberg edged out Thompson, the Democratic challenger, by 51 percent to 46 percent. Bloomberg becomes the fourth mayor of New York City to serve at least three terms.

What do you think of Mayor Bloomberg’s victory? Are three terms too much? Please post your comments below.

I’m glad that Mayor Bloomberg is in office again, even for a third term. However, I do not like the way he overrode the people’s choice of term limits. In this case, it was not a question of which candidate I liked better, but which candidate I disliked the least.

It was definitely not easy voting for Mayor Mike b/c of the term limits issue, but it just came down to who I think will do a better job in the city I live in. Nothing against Bill Thompson (who apparently ran a much better campaign than most people assumed) but it’s tough to argue with the job Bloomberg has done thus far.

Under Bloomberg’s administration, the subway service has seriously deteriorated while fares have gone up. He favors real-estate interests. His gay-rights record is all talk and no walk. He railroaded the term limits issue and bought another election. The city is becoming a plutocracy wherein the rich man in power favors the rich. He’s a Republican through and through.

I think its a travesty. If politicians do not honor and respect the will of the people then what is a democracy all about. The outright lies in his ads leading up to the election was just too galling to take.

While Bloomberg may have been the more capable candidate, I find his arrogance repugnant. He’s done a great deal for NYC except in the area of education. He has been supremely capable in skewing statistics and misleading the public. Too many are afraid to confront him on that issue. I applaud Thompson for doing so.

He’s a sawed off runt! Big mistake re-electing him.

Although Bloomberg has made NY a city for the wealthy, he has done a good job running NYC. He is a known commodity. He has been very philanthropic to various art groups.
