I am a retired science teacher with a comprehensive background in biology and ecology. My aunt and her husband lived on North Brother Island after World War Ii. My uncle was a student veteran and my aunt worked in downtown Manhattan; both commuted daily on the ferry. Recently, I have become very interested in the history of North Brother Island. I also have read about the heron population and how in 2005.....I believe?????......researchers landed on the island, clearing local flora and planting species of other plants, plants found within established Herron populations. I would love to be able to actually see the island "CLOSE UP". I would truly appreciate the opportunity to visit North Brother Islsnd myself. Can you please advise me as to how a visit may become reality. As a science person, I feel most qualified in asking to be able to have a visit. This would be one of greatest achievements in my life, for both scientific and family reasons. My aunt is now 82 years old and would be thrilled to visit her old home.
