The Pill

American Experience Explores a drig that would arguably have a greater impact on American culture that any other in the nation's history.

The Pill Money may not buy true happiness. True happiness may not come in a pill. But how about liberation for millions of American women?

The invention of the birth control pill in the early 1960s proved to be a watershed moment in the struggle for women's rights in America. Not only were more women able to control when and if they were to have children, but they were essentially freed to persue fullfillment in the boardroom, as well as in the bedroom.

Through the stories of key birth control pioneers including Margaret Sanger, Katharine McCormick, Gregory Pincus, and John Rock, "The Pill" explores the origins of the pill from development to distribution and examines why the pill is a crucial link to the liberation of American women.
