Thirteen shines a spotlight on Brooklyn and its colorful history and character with a week of programming that accents the borough's distinctive flavors.

Broadcast Schedule

Monday, October 21st

9pm: KEN BURNS AMERICAN STORIES: BROOKLYN BRIDGE -- The week begins with an examination of the controversy surrounding the building of the Brooklyn Bridge and the many technological challenges that confronted its builders.

10pm: HEAVEN TOUCHES BROOKLYN IN JULY -- Narrated by actors John Turturro and Michael Badalucco, the program looks at the feast of San Paolino, an event that takes place in Williamsburg every July.

Wednesday, October 23rd

8:30pm: THE DODGERS SYM-PHONY -- Don't miss this irreverent profile of the legendary Brooklyn Dodgers Sym-Phony Band. Aptly named in 1939 by broadcaster Red Barber, who noted the group's lack of professional musicianship, the Sym-Phony Band was comprised of fans who continue to play in Brooklyn and around the country in tribute to a team that has long since relocated.

Thursday, October 24th

10pm: A BROOKLYN FAMILY TALE -- The struggles of a family coping with gangs, suicide, and violence, and their unique relationship with a social worker is the subject of Roger Weisberg's acclaimed documentary.

Saturday, October 26th

3pm: DEM BUMS: BROOKLYN'S BELOVED DODGERS -- The history of Brooklyn's beloved Dodgers is recounted with humor and sentiment by fan David Hartman. This documentary tells the team's complete story, from Jackie Robinson's breaking of the color barrier to five crushing World Series losses to the dreaded Yankees and the day the team relocated to Los Angeles, breaking three million hearts in the process.

Sunday, October 27th

1:30pm: A WALK AROUND BROOKLYN WITH DAVID HARTMAN AND HISTORIAN BARRY LEWIS -- The people, institutions, and history of Brooklyn are featured in this installment of Thirteen's popular Walking Tour series. Hartman and Lewis stop at local landmarks, looking at the vast cultural diversity that makes Brooklyn so unique, and the way different waves of immigration have shaped its neighborhoods.
