Thirteen/WNET New York has an exciting opportunity for an individual with eight (8) or more years of experience creating and executing media campaigns for entertainment, television or new media companies to join its staff in the capacity of Director, Programming Communications.
The individual selected will work with senior Thirteen/WNET staff to establish priorities for programming communications efforts. He or she will direct media relations campaigns for all Thirteen/WNET programming, including local, national and web-only content; develop and implement all programming media relations initiatives across print, radio and television outlets; identify target audiences and concentrate media relations efforts on these groups for maximum return on the time and resources invested; and develop and create press materials used to promote programs, including press releases, Q&As, producer and talent biographies, and program summaries when necessary. The Director selected will be expected to measure the effectiveness of media relations efforts in reaching and impacting upon target audiences; identify and hire outside agencies as needed to implement programming media relations campaigns; and oversee the development of unique Thirteen/WNET content across multiple platforms, coordinating efforts with Advertising, Promotion and Publications staff. He or she will be tasked with the goal of incorporating audio, video, blogs, RSS feeds, and social networking into online strategies. To support him or her in achieving these objectives, the Director selected will manage a staff of team managers and publicists.
To be considered for this position, you must have a Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism or a related field; excellent interpersonal communications and management skills; and excellent writing skills. You must demonstrate an ability to prioritize multiple projects and to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. We're looking for a strong strategic thinker who has excellent relationships with national and local press and who is skilled in online PR.
