making history

The year 2001-2002 was truly a historic one for Thirteen, as it was for all America. With the shocking blows of September 11, it became a year that would test New York City and all America. And it would test Thirteen as it had never been tested before.

And now, Thirteen has passed from one historic year to another -- the 40th anniversary of our first broadcast. This year, Thirteen celebrates four decades of pioneering television, community partnership educational ingenuity, and new media innovation. It's a milestone that confirms Thirteen's enduring value even as it provides a launching point for an exciting new era of historic achievement in public television.

In many ways, history is the keystone that holds together all we do at Thirteen. Local history, universal history, personal history. History remembered, relived, imagined, and dreamed. In a historic year, during a historic era, Thirteen continues to make television that stands the test of time.
