June 5, 1968
Sen. Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated in Los Angeles’ Ambassador Hotel after claiming victory in California’s Democratic presidential primary. Gunman Sirhan Bishara Sirhan was immediately arrested. (See article in The New York Times)

See the site for the American Experience documentary that chronicled the pivotal role RFK played in many of the major events of the 1960s. The film isn’t watchable online, but the entire transcript is there, as well as primary documents and video clips.
