Mr. James Faczak

came to our rescue.  Mr. Faczak works for the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection in the Division of Parks and Forestry.

He confirmed our belief that our watershed is the Arthur Kill.  We were lucky enough to have Mr. Faczak come to our class and help us test water from our watershed. Nitrates, Phosphates, Dissolved Oxygen, and pH are all components of the watershed that should be within certain limits to keep the watershed healthy.  We compared our numbers with normal amounts.

Our results were within healthy limits for all materials except Nitrates.  One reason for this could be the use of fertilizers which run into the water system from places like lawns and golf courses.
