Introduction
to cyanide In Ms. Chien's class at SOF, we did a
series of tests on the water of
schools. We were supposed to find out if the water had
cyanide in it and how much of it too. Our compound is mostly
found in power plants and factories. It is a pollutant and
can be very dangerous. We think that none of the school
waters have any cyanide in it. Not even a little. Materials:
For this experiment, we used... Rusults: school negative positive SOF Ã PS.234 Ã 104 Ã 131 Ã 11 Ã These are most of
the results we placed down because every school does not have cyanide in the water. There is a root in developing
countries called the cassava. If not prepared properly, the
root can have high levels of cyanide in it. Symptoms of it
are wrecked nerves, and pregnancy problems. The list of symptoms is long. Another supplier of cyanide are power
plants. Procedure:
#1. Measure a 10
ML water sample into the calibrated tube #2. Add 2 drops of
cyanide test 1 and mix #3. Add 2 drops of
cyanide test 2 and mix #4. If cyanide is
present, a pink color will develop which turns violet in a
few minutes. Allow approximately 10 minutes for the color to
develop. (picture

Our results say our school
does have cyanide
in its drinking water, and from the result table it shows that it was the
same with other schools. Looking back on our
hypothesis, we see that we are right because, there was a cyanide
contamination, then the whole city would be in a state of jeopardy! Our ideas on preventing a problem like this would be that we must have power
plants farther away from the water supply because if they are
near by then they will totally pollute the water and have
people having horrible illness's. There seems to be
no pros on cyanide because it hurts the nervous system
especially. It can cause extreme reactions and also cause
birth defects with the unborn child. (if a mom is carrying one.) This topic can
also connect to ammonia and
chlorine because they clean the
water and can help prevent cyanide in it.
