"The Latin American Experience" website was created by students at the Norwalk Housing Authority's four after-school Learning Centers in Norwalk, Connecticut.  We did a youth website last year for Channel Thirteen/WNET's Students Take on "The Black Experience".  So, when Channel Thirteen asked us if we wanted to do another youth website, we thought we would do one on "The Latin American Experience."

Students from Kindergarten to twelfth grade wrote, drew and asked friends and family about their experiences as Latin Americans in Norwalk, Connecticut.  We discovered that many students came from many different countries.  Many students have parents who came from other countries.  Some students who have contributed to this website are not Latin American but live side-by-side with Latin American students, go to school together and share friendships.  They have thought about how their Latin American friends have enriched their own lives.  We have many Latin American students in our communities studying to be doctors, lawyers, engineers and business persons.  Like other Latin Americans have done already.  We also learned about the bravery that it takes to come from another country and speak a different language and begin a new life in the United States.  Some of us look at our own parents with new respect.

We hope that this website will help others to see how many ways all Latin American students and families are contributing in Norwalk and all around the United States.  This website reflects our heritage and our dreams.  We had fun creating it and hope you enjoy it.
