By the year 2050, scientists predict that one quarter of Earth's species will
become extinct. Species are rapidly loosing their habitats due to the growth of
the human population. Using online and CD-ROM reference resources, students will
study the issue of endangered and threatened wildlife, debate the ethics of zoos
and captive breeding, analyze the pros and cons of electronic zoos, and finally
create a dynamic "Virtual Endangered Species Zoo" using HyperStudio.

Students will
define the term "endangered" as used by national and international organizations
and identify the factors causing wildlife to become extinct.
Students
will investigate animals and birds that are listed as endangered and consider
each species' habitat, diet, conservation status, and threats to survival.
Students will
consider the advantages and disadvantages of virtual zoos as well as actual zoos.
Students
will learn to use HyperStudio as a tool for multimedia presentations,
incorporating sound, images text, animation, and QuickTime movies.
