The Grand Canyon has been called a window on the evolution of the Earth. Using online and CD-Rom reference resources, as well as a program from the NATURE TV series on PBS, students will explore the making and history of the Grand Canyon, and create a dynamic Hyperstudio presentation based on their findings.

Students will be able to:
Identify and define the different types of erosion and relate this research to the formation of the Grand Canyon.
Explore and research plate tectonics and its role in the formation of the Canyon.
Identify the rock layers of the Grand Canyon and explain the correlating changes in the Earth.
Examine the social customs, government, traditions, and spiritual beliefs of the Canyon's indigenous people.
Learn to use HyperStudio as a tool for multimedia presentations that incorporate sound, graphics, text, basic animation, and Quicktime movies.
