Dogs are much more than household pets. They play vital roles helping people in our communities. Using online and CD-Rom reference resources, as well as a program from the NATURE TV series on PBS, students will study the various roles dogs play in our communities, research and identify ideal breeds and traits for specific types of work, and create a dynamic Hyperstudio presentation based on their findings.

Grade Level:

4-6

Subject Matter:

Social Studies, Language Arts, Design, Technology Education





Students will be able to:

  List the different ways dogs function in a community.
  Identify various breeds of dogs associated with specific types of work.
  Research the qualities (both mental and physical) that make a breed suitable for specific lines of work.
  Study the mythology associated with certain breeds.
  Learn to use Hyperstudio as a tool for multimedia presentations, including incorporating sound, image, text, basic animation, and Quicktime movies.
