Assignment Sheet
Cell Biology
Print this page and distribute it to your students. You are responsible for creating an animation that illustrates a cellular process. Choose one of the following topics to animate:
- Cell Division:
- Mitosis
- Meiosis
- Fertilization of egg by sperm
- Movement of molecules across a membrane:
- Simple diffusion of water (osmosis)
- Simple diffusion of ions
- Passive transport via carrier protein
- Active transport via protein pumps
- Endocytosis
- Exocytosis
- Engulfment (amoeba)
- Secretion
-
Protein Synthesis
- Enzymatic Activity:
- Lock and Key Model
- Induced Fit Model
- Motility:
- Cilia (paramecium)
- Flagella (euglena)
- Amoeboid movement (amoeba)
View online animations and research your particular topic by using the sites provided in the Student Pathway. Make sketches of key animation frames on the Storyboard Design Sheet before beginning to work on the computer. Your project must include at least 5-10 separate frames that show sequential action of a cellular process. Try to include labels, where appropriate, to indicate aspects of your illustration (e.g., cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, salt molecules).
