Alcohol and the Human Body
spacer

The consumption of alcohol is widespread in our culture and is often used in religious rituals as well as social celebrations, but alcohol use has a dangerous side. The abuse of alcohol contributes to nearly 100,000 deaths a year and is the third largest cause of preventable death. How does the body react to heavy drinking in a short period of time? What about long-term alcohol abuse? Through this lesson, students will examine the immediate and long-term effects of alcohol on the body, calculate absorption rates, explore their community for non-alcohol related activities, and present their findings in a newsletter.
