| The consumption of alcohol is widespread in our culture and is often used in religious rituals as well as social celebrations, but alcohol use has a dangerous side. The abuse of alcohol contributes to nearly 100,000 deaths a year and is the third largest cause of preventable death. How does the body react to heavy drinking in a short period of time? What about long-term alcohol abuse? Through this lesson, students will examine the immediate and long-term effects of alcohol on the body, calculate absorption rates, explore their community for non-alcohol related activities, and present their findings in a newsletter.
