Now the bad news... maybe. Your computer might not be up to the task of playing video in your favorite browser. If you have a Mac, you need:
A note about sound: If you have a Mac, a soundcard and speakers are both built-in to your computer, so you're all set. But if you have a PC, read on. While it's likely that you will not have any problems, some older 486 machines may not be sound-ready. If you're unsure about your machine's configuration, check your computer's documentation; if you're using one of your school's computers, ask the computer specialist/systems administrator if it is sound-ready. If your machine has a soundcard but no speakers, see if you can borrow some speakers from your school or a friend. (Sorry, you can't use regular stereo system speakers; they need to be "special" speakers made for a computer.)
Another alternative is to use a set of headphones from a Walkman or portable CD player -- if your computer has a headphone plug-in port. You can find that port on your monitor or hard drive. Look for the headphones symbol. If you're sure you have a soundcard and a set of speakers, you'll also need the Apple QuickTime plug-in. As of April, 1999, the latest QuickTime program is 4.0. Follow the instructions below on how to get QuickTime 4.0. |
