Dear Parents,
Your child is currently learning the usefulness of mathematics in everyday life
when they learn how to measure. The best way to learn about measurement is by
measuring! So we would like your help.
When you measure at home, please share what you are doing with your child. If
you will allow him or her to help you, then your child will develop measurement
concepts through exploration.
We will learn in school how to measure using standard units (centimeter and inch
rulers, yard sticks, tape measure, etc.) and nonstandard units (paper clips,
pencils, popsicle sticks, linking cubes, stick, etc.) of measure. How to estimate
measurements and how to select appropriate units of measure.
Measurement is important! Look for opportunities to measure and to use measurement
with your child.
Sincerely,
