Rosemary Nemeth is the WVIZ Teacher of the Year.
The 2000-2001 NTTI Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award was presented to Rosemary Nemeth. Rosemary teaches grade four at Gesu Elementary School (Cleveland Catholic Diocese). She has a BA and MA from John Carroll University in Elementary Education and has been teaching for 18 years. Rosemary is moderator for Science Club and a Coach for the Science Olympiad. She is also Technology Coordinator and Web Master for the school. She assisted in the writing of a grant that brought Legos/Robotics into the classrooms at Gesu School. Recently, Rosemary was involved in an OEPA sponsored Teacher Seminar at Cleveland State University. Last summer, Rosemary organized, planned, and taught the WVIZ/PBS Summer Technology Institute for Teachers. Rosemary was awarded the Master Teacher of the Year for the Cleveland Catholic Diocese in 1989. This is Rosemary's third year as a NTTI Master Teacher.
Rosemary is known for her caring attitude and warm smile. Her use of Legos has excited students, as well as teachers, as they apply engineering skills in constructing a robot. She has designed Distance learning programs for the Museum of Art on animals and their adaptation for survival. Technology comes alive in her classroom as she uses the digital camera, the Internet, laser disks, and video cameras to enhance her lessons. Rosemary received a grant from NASA on a program called Project Astro where an astronomer from NASA visits her classroom regularly for one year. Rosemary also designed the homepage of her school's Web site that includes a virtual tour of the school.
