Scott Barber WVIZ/PBS's Teacher of the Year, is a Bureau educator and a Fredrick Roehm Middle School teacher. Barber has mastered the integration of technology into his science lessons. Each day students are involved in a variety of activities from designing Web sites, conducting research via the Internet, taking digital pictures, and learning new software packages.

One of Barber's projects was called "Spamfest." A native of Minnesota, home of Spam, Scott always had Spam watches, ties and posters that would pique the curiosity of his students. Scott worked cooperatively with the Hormel Company in developing a science unit about Spam for his students to explore. They used information from Hormel's science, quality control line, consumer consumption and marketing departments. "Spamfest" soon became a school wide project with the civics, language arts, and math department. Scott worked with staff and students on developing Internet skills and students were soon developing their own marketing plans and advertisements. They even calculated how many cans of Spam it would take to fill the Washington Monument.
