Laura Richter is the Maine Public Broadcasting Teacher of the Year.
Laura Richter is a social studies teacher at the Skowhegan Area Middle School in Skowhegan, Maine. She received her BA in English from the University of Maine in Orono. Her Master of Science in Computer Technology Education is from Thomas College. In 1999 she received an Internet Innovator Award from National Semi Conductor and for this her school received $30,000.00 for teacher training and hardware. She has been a teacher consultant in the Maine Geographic Alliance for the past eight years and has attended many institutes in Maine and Colorado. Laura enjoys traveling in Europe and south of the border. She spends part of her summers in Cape Breton enjoying the Scottish fiddle music and dance. Laura lives with her husband who is a violin maker, in Skowhegan, Maine. Three of her four children have graduated from college and technology institutes, and the youngest is currently attending business school.
