Lorri Alonzo is the ASSET Teacher of the Year. She
is a fourth grade ESL teacher at Imes Magnet School in Glendale, Arizona. She has been teaching for a total of 14 years. In Flagstaff, Arizona she spent one year as a special education resource teacher and two years as a kindergarten teacher. After moving to Glendale with her family, she taught two more years of kindergarten and two years of multi-age primary. The last seven years have been spent teaching grades 4 and 5.
Lorri's goal in her classroom is to see all students experience success. She works closely with the special education staff at her school to provide opportunities for success to all of her students including her students with special needs. She believes all students are capable of learning and need to be challenged. Lorri uses her experience as a special education teacher and her ESL background to create this challenging learning environment for all.
Lorri graduated from Northern Arizona University with a dual major in Elementary and Special Education. She received an ESL endorsement about 6 years ago and completed her Master's degree in Elementary Education through Northern Arizona University in June of this 2000. This is Lorri's first year as an ASSET NTTI Master Teacher.
