  • Group One
    What does the word Islam mean? What are the Five Pillars of Islam? Where did they come from? What values do these Pillars reflect?

  • Group Two
    Who was Abraham? Who was Muhammad? What relationship do they have to Islam? What was so radical about Muhammad's message? Be sure to include biographical information about Muhammad including when and where he lived, what kind of occupation he had, and what his family life was like.

  • Group Three
    What is Mecca? Why is it so important to Islam? What is the Kabba? What was Mecca like before the birth of Muhammad? What was it like during and after Muhammad's life?

  • Group Four
    What are the Koran and the Hadith? What is their significance in Islam? What is the most important difference between the two? What language is the Koran written in?

  • Group Five
    How many Muslims are living in the world today? What countries do Muslims live in? What countries are home to the largest populations of Muslims? (Students in this group should include a map with their handout.) How many Muslims are currently living in America? How do these numbers compare to those of Christians or Jews?

    Describe some of the differences and similarities between Christianity and Islam.

    Describe some of the contributions Islamic society has made to science, math, and medicine.
