Writing Guidelines

  Your creative written work should convey your thoughts, perspectives and feelings about heroism. Your writing needs to have:
  • a title

  • a subject

  • a voice

  • a perspective

  • a narrative

  • a genre

  • a theme

  • supporting and illustrative details

  • appropriate language for the subject

Here are some suggestions for the writing assignment:
  • Write a letter to your hero.

  • Write a memoir from the perspective of an important historical figure who is considered a “hero.”

  • Write a new story or interview about one of the characters from the documentary HEROES OF GROUND ZERO.

  • Write a one-act play about a hero from another culture.

  • Write an opinion piece or editorial on the question: Do we need heroes?

  • Write a poem about a hero from the past or present.

  • Write a fairy tale or myth about your ideal hero.
