Student Organizer
      Activity One- Homework

Read the following scenario and then answer the questions that follow:

Two middle school administrators are trying to determine what school day hours are most conducive to learning. The first administrator says he feels that students learn best if they start early (7:30AM) and finish early (2:30PM). The second administrator says she’s read that starting later (9:00AM) and ending later (4:00PM) is more conducive to learning. As it is now, both middle schools in the district begin at 7:30AM and end at 2:30PM.

They decide to conduct an experiment. Middle School A is going to continue opening at 7:30AM and ending at 2:30PM, and Middle School B is going to start at 9:00AM and finish at 4:00PM. At the beginning of the experiment, both schools will take the same test that covers all the basic areas covered in their curricula. At the end of three months, both schools will take the same test. Depending on which school improves the most, the school district will determine which school day hours will be used. If school A does better, they’ll stay with the 7:30AM to 2:30PM schedule. If school B does better, they’ll adopt the 9:30AM to 4:00PM hours. During the experiment, the students at both schools will be taught the exact same curriculum.

What question are the administrators trying to answer?

Briefly explain how they are going to try to answer their question.
